My New Collection Obsession: Vintage Globes

While thrift shopping in NY, I came across the most amazing vintage tin globe. Unfortunately, it was extremely overpriced so I had to leave it sitting in the window!

But not to be deterred, I spent part of the drive home searching the Internet for another one in my price range – and I found it over at Vintage Cals on Etsy!

This amazing shop only sells vintage globes and I had to exhibit much restraint to only buy one! But I am beyond ecstatic with my choice – a beautiful 1934 Tin Globe being held up by Atlas.

It’s even cooler in person and adds just the right amount of color to my vintage camera collection!!

New Etsy Store Items: ONE-OF-A-KIND Paper Art

After a very positive response to the vintage postcard paper art in my Etsy store, I have added more pieces to the shop!

Each one is lovingly hand-cut from selected vintage postcards that I found in local thrift stores and 10% of all profits received will be given to my favorite animal sanctuary, Rikki’s Refuge.

I hope you’ll take a few minutes to check them out and let me know what you think! And please feel free to forward the links to anyone you know that might be interested!

Live Love Life Now is on ETSY!

Bagels and Vintage Shopping in Charlottesville

Whenever I’m in Charlottesville, there are two things that I have to do:
  1. Eat at Bodo’s Bagels, the home of the greatest bagel sandwiches in the world!

  2. And shop for vintage treasures at Circa!

Can't shop on an empty stomach!

A little non-descript but full of goodies!

If only I was in the market (and had space) for some cool, new furniture

Vintage frames and mirrors galore!

Grater #2 for my (slowly) growing collection

I can’t resist vintage bottles!

I was struck by how colorful and graphic this vintage game was…so I had to have it!

More stuff!!

I loved this display of vintage postcards

Treasure Hunt Finds

Having driven a fair distance for the ‘barn crawl’ this past weekend, I was pretty adamant about making it worth my while…which meant I wanted to find treasures everywhere we stopped.

Of course, finding things I want is always easy. The challenge is to find things I can a) afford and b) fit into my apartment.

Fortunately, I found a few treasures at each stop that fit into both categories! On the flip side, I think I may have started two new collections – oops!

Following is a photo diary of our shopping excursion and a list of the stores we searched!

First stop
Ekster Antiques
38532 Pheasant Hill Lane
Hamilton, VA 20158

Second stop
Baileywyck Shoppes
21197 St. Louis Road
Middleburg, VA 20117

Third stop
Victoria’s Past Tyme
760 East Main Street
Purcellville, VA 20132

The barn at Ekster

The barn surprised us with extra rooms of more goodies!

The interior was chock full of treasures!

There was so much to look at that I had to keep revisiting rooms

>My first purchase of the day! I think it will make a gorgeous terrarium

The mint condition vintage Coca-Cola machine at Baileywyck Shoppes was amazing!

I have always wanted a printer’s cabinet like this one!! Alas, it has to remain on my dream list…for now!

Detail of an incredible vintage pinball game – and yet another piece I couldn’t afford to take home!

My second purchase of the day…and the first piece of my new tin collection!

My third purchase was a Hagerstown Dairy container to add to my milk bottle collection

We noticed Victoria's Past Tyme along the road and had a feeling it would have lots of treasures to look at inside – and we were right!

I don’t know why but I have a thing for roosters…and I fell in love with this guy!

My fourth and last purchase of the day is a multi-utility grater...and the first piece of another new collection!

Who’s Ready for a Barn Crawl?

It takes a lot for me to be excited about getting up early on a Saturday, but I am so excited about tomorrow…and my first ever ‘barn crawl’!

What's a ‘barn crawl’ you might ask? Well it’s when you drive out to the country and shop for treasures in barns-turned-home design stores.

The Washington Post recently featured an article about this trend in our area and I couldn’t have been more excited to learn about new vintage inspired home design stores in my neck of the woods (pun intended)!

I can’t wait to share all my treasures with you…wish me luck!!!

It’s Not Old - It’s Vintage!

Over the past few years, my design style has slowly started to veer towards the vintage and eclectic.

And sourcing the perfect vintage find is akin to a treasure hunt for me and I’ve started to become a bit obsessed.

Unfortunately, there is a lack of vintage stores in my area so when the craving can’t be ignored I like to take a short road trip to Chartreuse & Co. in Frederick, MD for one of their monthly tag sales.

They have a great mix of old and new and I always go through their store twice in case I’ve missed anything on the first time through.

Below are some of the incredible finds I discovered a few weeks ago when I made the trek to their barn o’ treasures. While I didn’t have the money or space for most of these items, I couldn’t resist taking pictures to save for inspiration at a later date.

The ‘barn’

The main floor

The attic

My grandfather was a photographer so I'm always drawn to antique cameras

I adore this pendant light and would have bought it if the price had been right

This gorgeous metal console would make an amazing media cabinet. If only I’d had a grand burning a whole in my pocket…

If I could have found a spot in my apartment for this chair/stool, I would have bought it on the spot. Alas, I couldn’t...

Refinished, this would make an amazing desk for a guest room!

I love how this vintage piece has been reworked into a side table

SOLD! These vintage clipboards were mine as soon as I laid eyes on them!

SOLD! I have an obsession with vintage clocks and scales (basically anything with cool looking numbers) and this fit perfectly into my stovetop collection once I got home!
