Is It Just Me or Was It ‘One of Those’ Days Today?

I’m taking a quick break from my New Year posts to ask the question…”What the hell happened today?”

Instead of being excited that it was already Thursday and I was almost caught up at work, I spent most of the day lethargic, forlorn, unmotivated and slightly depressed.

Perhaps it was the bizarre dreams of Wednesday night, but I woke up feeling off this morning and then spent the better part of the day obsessing about the direction of my life…and other things equally out of my control.

So thank goodness for my sister who talked me through the toughest part of the afternoon and encouraged me to take the night off and just relax once I got home.

Heeding her advice, I took a long hot bath after dinner and immediately started feeling better. Seriously, is there nothing that a good soak in the bathtub can’t cure?

While this journey that I’m on can get pretty bumpy at times, someone wise once told me that the more discomfort you feel about a situation means the closer you are to making the necessary change.

I like that.

Quote of the Day

“Stress is the trash of modern life – we all generate it but if you don’t dispose of it properly, it will pile up and overtake your life.” - Danzae Pace

Last week was a daily cycle of working like crazy throughout the day followed by evening obligations that left me feeling exhausted and in need of a good cry and a good night’s sleep.

There was no time for thinking or doing anything besides my day job and I was okay with shelving everything else for a little bit. But in the back of my mind, all of my personal responsibilities started to pile up and not being able to do anything about them added to the already overwhelming stress load on my shoulders.

So this weekend, I cut back on my activities and dedicated most of today to cleaning and organizing my apartment – and therefore my mind – because I’ve come to realize that visual clutter adds to my mental clutter…which then makes it difficult for me to focus on the task at hand. And focus is what I’m going to be in need of this coming week at work.

I also need to bring more focus to my other job. Live Love Life Now™ has been pushed to the side for too long and the stress of inactivity is starting to really weigh on my mind. And I mustn’t let that stress pile up to the point of overtaking my life because Live Love Life Now™ is to be the path to a more fulfilling and satisfying life…one without mass client mailings and obligatory days stuck inside a fluorescent light filled office building.

What Can You Not Do in Eleven Days?

Jan. 09 – after a successful night of writing, I indulge in one of my favorite pastimes – sleeping in! After a slow start, I spend the afternoon furiously cleaning before having friends over. I barely have time to shower, let alone blog!

Jan. 10 – I sleep in again (isn’t that what weekends are for?) and then spend more time cleaning after finally taking down the Christmas tree and decorations. As a reward for all the effort, I give myself the evening off to relax before going back to work.

Jan. 11 – Monday morning arrives all too soon and before long I’m smack in the middle of another crazy day at the office. But no matter how involved I am in a task, in the back of my mind I’m stressing about the blog. So even though it’s late by the time I get home from yoga class, I tell myself it’s now or never and pull out the laptop. With the blog already set up, it takes me no time at all to log in and upload my first post.

So with thirty minutes to spare before midnight, my blog is up for all to see! And I am PROUD of myself, which feels really good. Far better than the guilt and stress I usually live with.

But it’s also accompanied by nagging thoughts on whether I can keep up the momentum, or if I’ll fall back into my normal pattern of procrastination…
