Can I Will It To Be Windy?

Over the holiday weekend, I tried my hand at windsurfing for the second time.

I was excited to get back out on the water and even woke up bright and early in order to take advantage of a promising wind forecast. Unfortunately, the morning wind gave way to sporadic breezes by the time we were ready to go.

Is it possible I’m a weather jinx?

Who knows, but it may have been a good thing because I wasn’t actually ready to start surfing away. I was pretty rusty since our first class so I used the time to practice the basics - over and over and over again.

But whereas, I was proud of myself the first time around for getting the hang of it fairly quickly…I started to get frustrated with myself over not seeing more improvement this time around.

Being a perfectionist by trade, I expect a lot out of myself. But sometimes practice makes perfect and I have to give myself some slack if I am still learning how to do something.

So the message learned this past Sunday was about patience, self-determination and never giving up on myself. And I am happy to report that I didn’t - though I did take a few necessary breaks to regroup mentally.

Seems like there’s a life lesson in there somewhere…

Living Life at Top Speed

My sister sent me this video the day after we went windsurfing for the first time and I was transformed. I can’t watch it without getting chills and to me it embodies the full meaning behind Live Love Life Now™ because it is obvious that the surfers are simply living their passion.

I find that pretty inspiring.

Chasing the Wind

While still on vacation, my sister called me with an offer I couldn’t refuse.

Did I want to take a windsurfing class?

Um, yeah!

Okay, so I actually didn’t agree that quickly. I still had vacation brain and couldn’t quite wrap my head around what it would take to windsurf.

And then I realized it didn’t matter. The goal of this year was to start living life…and this would certainly be another step in the right direction.

And so today, I found myself on Gunpowder River taking a windsurfing instructional class…in 95-degree weather. Thankfully we spent most of the four hours in the water.

And it was awesome!

Granted there wasn’t a whole lot of wind today - and that’s kind of a big part of windsurfing (duhr) - but I still had a lot of fun practicing the basic pose, sailing position and self rescue.

And now I feel ready to catch some real wind!
