Fireworks and a Marching Band? I love the NFL!

The theme for 2011 seems to be “firsts”.

In the wee hours of January 1st, I rang in the New Year by facing my fear and singing karaoke for the first time.

And on the second day of the New Year, I went to my first NFL game.

While that doesn’t sound like a big accomplishment, it had actually been on my goals list for some time because I’ve been to pretty much every other professional sporting event BUT an NFL game.

And next to the kick ass marching band (who knew?), sweet fireworks and above average temperatures (thank goodness), the best part of the game had to be the free tickets AND parking pass!

It was a pretty nice way to experience my first NFL game and while the Washington Redskins couldn’t overcome their early deficit to beat the New York Giants, it was still a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

The marching band brought back memories of high school!

Come on Redskins!

Singing My Way into the New Year

A music teacher once told my mother that I had perfect pitch as a child. I guess that’s why I know I can’t sing – I can hear how far (really far) off key I am.

But even though singing has always been one of my biggest insecurities, I decided to face my fears and bring in the New Year with a therapeutic session of karaoke.

And while I won’t be auditioning for American Idol anytime soon, it felt really good to overcome my fear of singing in public.

I think 2011 is going to be a great year.
